| Black Snake Trail Hike | Bear
bells provide an element of safety for hikers in grizzly country.
The tricky part is getting the bells on the bears. | ||||||

The Black Snake Trail is a fairly easy hike across small creeks and up a forested hill. The trail head said 3 miles, but it actually seemed more like 5. We didn't see anyone else on the trail at all. We truly enjoyed the fresh mountain air and seclusion.
Links: Thanks to my husband Karl for generating a topographic map of the region. Here is a nice topographic map of Allegany that you can customize and purchase. Reserve camping in Allegany State Park. Allegany State Park was voted one of the top 100 best campgrounds in the nation. |
