Dr,
Victor Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve is located on 77 Honorine
Drive in Depew NY, backing up to Stiglmeier Park.
It
has nearly 300 acres of woods, ponds (NO FISHING) and wetlands.
I believe the forest contains the oldest trees in Western New York.
The park is open only limited hours, so call ahead before you get
there. 716-683-5959
Here is information from their brochure:
"Guided
Tours:
On a guided tour
of Reinstein Woods, you may see a red-tailed hawk soaring overhead,
or hear a pileated woodpecker pecking on a tree in the old-growth
forest. If you are quiet, you may spot a great blue heron standing
silently in a marsh or pond. You will also learn how the history
of Reinstein Woods is closely tied to the history of Cheektowaga
and Western New York.
In
the spring, "The Woods" are noisy with the sounds of Canada
geese honking upon their return north and spring peepers singing.
Many visitors return every summer to enjoy the pink fragrant water
lily flowers covering the Lily Pond.
The
bright colored leaves of old-growth sugar maple and beech trees
light up the woods in fall. You may even encounter a graceful white-tailed
deer crossing the trail.
Winter
is the perfect time to observe deer, fox, or turkey tracks while
out on a guided cross-country skiing tour. Or you can try out a
pair of our snowshoes during a guided snowshoe walk!
Enviornmental

Reinstein Woods is an ideal outdoor classroom for students
of all ages, offering the opportunity for hands-on learning in a

as pond life and animal signs to help students learn how to observe
